Hi!
My husband and I are SERIOUSLY considering relocating to Pinon Pines, and we were wondering if most Pinon Pines residents have a water softener? (I have long blonde hair which tangles easily!)
We would also like to know if insulation of our water pipes would be a good idea, even though they (the pipes) will be underneath our home, and are copper?
I sincerely hope we are able to become active members of the Pinon Pines community, and will have a positive impact on this beautiful area which will become our last and final home. |

My family and I moved to Pinon Pines last year and love it.
We do not have a water softener and the biggest problem I have experienced is dry skin. My hair is not long, shoulder length, I did make some adjustments to my shampoo and conditioner though.
In regards to the pipes freezing we have electrical pipe warmers on ours. We learned about those when our pipes froze in early November. Our pipes are copper, insulated, and under our house also. We haven't had any problems since my husband plugged in the pipe warmers. I haven't heard from any other residents regarding their pipes freezing, so I can only speak from our experience.
Good luck on your relocation! |

Hi,
We moved to Pinon Pines from Valencia this last summer, and love it up here!
Although the water in Pinon Pines is not as hard as it is in Valencia, it is nice to have a water softener. You will feel better after a shower, and your pipes, fixtures and water heater will thank you. I had my softener moved to the new house, and it is working out very well. I own my softener and simply add potassium chloride salt to it every couple of months or so. There are no other costs or maintence chores beyond that. Note that the potassium chloride salt allows you to water your plants with softened water, where as the sodium choride salt will kill plants. The other option is to get the monthly service, and I believe Culligan, Rain, and others service the area.
The only problem we have had with frozen pipes was when I failed to re-wrap the pipes where the softener was installed, and the temperature dropped into the low 20s. There were a couple of feet of exposed copper pipe between the house and the water softener that froze. I now have the pipe re-wrapped and installed a housing and insulation around the softener, which sits at the front of my house where the water enters from the street. Since then I have had no problems, and I have not found it necessary to install heating elements.
Good luck, and hope you decide to make Pinon Pines your home!
